Doug began playing at the ripe old age of three. At 13, he was already on the road with the recording act 'The Young Californians,' and by sixteen he had appeared with jazz giants Dizzy Gillespie and Don Ellis.

As a member of 'Vital Signs,' one of the Bay Area's most popular acts, Doug played on the band's soundtrack recording for 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' as well as on the hysterical George Carlin video. Doug and the band also toured with Tina Turner, Joan Jett, Pat Benatar, Steppenwolf, Rick Derringer and Night Ranger. Vital Signs soundtrack recording for the movie 'Fantom' resulted in Doug's moving to L. A. where he joined Iron Butterfly for a two year run. He also did long stretches with the Coasters, Kim Weston and Jimmie McCracklin. It was during this time, also, when Doug had the opportunity to sit in for one of his idols, Prairie Prince, of The Tubes.

Along with his work in the Linda Imperial band, Doug continues to freelance and is currently working on new material with his old friend, Johnny Gunn.
